ORRVILLE, OH — Organizers are already making plans and working on logistics for this fall’s ‘2nd Annual ‘Rocktober Scholarship Benefit’, open to all OHS alumni from the 70′s, which benefits the Orrville High School Class of 1976 Memorial Scholarship Fund. The second all-alumni celebration and fundraiser will be held Friday evening October 18, 2013 with the GoodWill Band supplying the evening’s muscial entertainment. The ’2nd Annual ‘Rocktober Scholarship Benefit’ will be held from 8:00 PM – Midnight at the Orrville Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 3446 located at 430 W. Market Street in Orrville, OH. In addition to music, there will be a 50/50 and raffle prizes offered and food will be served.
The evening will be a benefit for the Class of 1976 Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior of the Class of 2016, the 40th anniversary of the Class of 1976′s graduation. The Class of 1976 Memorial Scholarship will be awarded in memory of former classmates who are no longer with us, including Daniel Rehm, Steve Rogers, Joe Derflinger, Greg Begert, Mike Weiss, Richard Wright and Burt Jarke.
Heading up this year’s event committee of the all-70′s alumni ’2nd Annual ‘Rocktober Scholarship Benefit’ is Rochell ‘Shelly’ (Nolt) Boughton as Chairperson along with Susan (Scott) Curie (Co-Chair); Debbie (Yoder) McDonald (Co-Chair); Anna Brant (Secretary); Jeff Brest (Treasurer) and Dave Corbett. More annoucements will be forthcoming as additional details are being worked on and finalized.
The committee will also be seeking sponsorship support and prizzes for the raffle. The Goodwill Band consists of Orrville natives and OHS alumni Jim Good, Bob Good and Tom Williams. Formed in 1999, the Goodwill Band will open the evening with a more acoustical set consisting of originals as well as covers of songs by the Hollies, Eagles, CSN&Y, Beatles, Dr. Hook, Al Jackson and many others. The trio has played all over Ohio including the Miss Ohio Festival.
“All three of us are definitely looking forward to playing the benefit,” commented Jim Good, guitarist and vocalist for the Goodwill Band. “We have played for this class before. We have been getting feed back from all our friends and it should be a very great night. Our band will probably have a couple practices and going over our song lists, which covers almost 200 tunes. And if there is anything anybody wants to hear we’ll do it!”
Admission will be $10.00 per person. There will be a cash bar and food will be available. The event will run from 7:00 PM – 11:30 PM. Pre-Sale ticket information will be announced at a later date.
